Movie Review -- Observe and Report

I observed and I must report, this movie bombs.

Observe and Repot opened up at the box-office this weekend, coming in at #4 with $11.1 million. Unfortunately, if you've seen the previews for this film, you've seen the film.

Seth Rogen, the breakout star actor behind hit movies like Knocked Up and Superbad, misfired on his attempt to completely lead a film without the help of his fraternity brothers from his previous films. But, it was not without effort.

Rogen's character, Ronald "Ronnie" Barnhardt, is the head of mall security, a job he takes very seriously. After a recent set of events, including a flasher and a burglary, Ronnie tries to step up his game with the police and become a cop himself.

With some cute one-liners here and there, and plenty of foul language, this movie deserves its rated R rating. But it lacks real plot and is extremely predictable, leading to the ending we all saw coming.

A few standout moments is when Ronnie gets into a verbal confrontation with Saddamn, played by Aziz Ansari, and a moment towards the end when Ronnie confronts Brandi, played by Anna Ferris. I don't want to give away too much here because these are the only great moments of the film. Just know, these moments of the film are true greatness. I just wish the rest of the film could have been this way.

To be honest, this movie might be decent when rented with a group of friends, but don't waste your money with this one at the theaters. It's just a little sad, Seth Rogen really has promise as an actor and will still achieve success, but this movie will hold him back.

If you need a comedy fix with Rogen in the lineup, check out The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Pineapple Express or Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Until then, we await Rogen's next few movies, a comedy entitled Funny People, and superhero movie, The Green Hornet.
